OPENING DAY 2012
Posted on : 2nd April 2012

Sunday 1st April had us all fooled. It looked like a pleasant spring day in the morning but that was where it finished. In a biting cold wind 20 couples played remarkably well. None more so than Gavin Kilgour and Pearl Beattie who won in fine style. The proceedings were started with the traditional Captains’ drives following a welcoming speech by Club Captain Paul Gray who took the opportunity to thank the many volunteers for their work on the course, in the clubhouse and the bungalow.

Left to right Jane Paton, Lady Captain; Paul Gray, Club Captain and Cammy Taylor, Junior Captain.

2012MEMBERSHIP

Thank you for joining Thornhill Golf club for 2012 and best wishes for good weather and a successful year on the golf course.

At the AGM the members supported the changes proposed by the Committee and acknowledged their responsibility in trying to raise income. Income can be raised in a number of ways:

  • increased use of the members concessions
  • more visitors
  • supporting fund raising events organised by the club
  • members using the clubhouse more
  • finding new members

The last item on the list is the most important for the long term viability of the club and  all members are encouraged  to actively seek new members.

£50 reward for finding new  members
For any member introducing a new member for 2012  £50  will be given towards your 2013 subscription. Former golfers will be acceptable in this initiative if they have not been a member for the last two years.

Further discussion at the AGM highlighted the need for members to remember their responsibility for the upkeep of the course and the efficient operation of club competitions. Please do your utmost to:

  • repair pitch marks at all times
  • use litter bins and keep the course tidy
  • replace divots with care
  • remove stones in bunkers and place in litter bins
  • play matchplay ties by the designated date
  • use tee timesheets appropriately and notify any time you are unable to fulfil your booking
